IMG_1097Alex often cuts out articles and poems he thinks I would enjoy sharing with you. This poem about life doesn’t have a title and the author is unknown, but I really like it:

The adventure of life is to learn.
The purpose of life is to grow.
The challenge of life is to overcome.
The essence of life is to care.
The opportunity of life is to serve.
The secret of life is to dare.
The spice of life is to befriend.
The beauty of life is to give.

I would like to add the following comments of my own:

The joy of life is to love and be loved.
The reality of life is that it’s fleeting.

We only get one shot at this life. We either do it right or we mess it up. We aren’t guaranteed any specific amount of time, and we don’t get a do-over.

I believe we must do the best we can with the time we are given. We need to tell the people we love how much we care, and we must take the time appreciate every single blessing.

Today we are grateful that the surgeon’s office was able to schedule an appointment for Alex this coming Tuesday afternoon. We are hopeful that he won’t have to wait long for the operation. When it’s over and he’s on the road to recovery, we will sit down and evaluate how we intend to spend the rest of our life together. We are acutely aware that the clock is ticking, and we don’t want to waste a minute of enjoying this wonderful gift of our life together.
