Questioning God | A Spiritual Journey Through Caregiving
What Happens to Faith During Caregiving When Honest Questions About God Begin?
Faith during caregiving often grows through honest questions rather than easy answers. This video shares one of my mother Madelyn’s letters written shortly after my dad’s first stroke. They had started attending a World Religion class at the local college, where everyone assumed Madelyn was going to be a quiet, polite, white-haired grandmother in the back row.
- They were wrong.
- Deeply wrong.
- Wonderfully wrong.
This series is a record of one woman’s evolving faith during caregiving, told with honesty, humor, irreverence, and surprising tenderness. Madelyn questions the Old Testament, challenges patriarchal teachings, and laughs at the assumptions people make about older women. But underneath the wit is something sacred: a woman carving out her own authentic relationship with God in the middle of caregiving, responsibility, and exhaustion.
Caregiving often raises questions that don’t have simple answers. For many people, faith becomes less about certainty and more about continuing the conversation. Honest questions don’t weaken faith—they can deepen it. Whether your journey brings confidence, doubt, peace, or uncertainty, you’re not alone. Many caregivers discover that their spiritual lives continue to grow, even when the path ahead feels unclear.
